Juneteenth is a holiday to commemorate the freedom, resilience, and pursuit of equality for black Americans in the United States. It is a time to honor the strength and perseverance of persons of color. And it is celebrated on the 19th of June...marking the day in 1865 (more than two years after the signing of the Emancipation Proclamation) when Union soldiers arrived in Galveston, TX to announce that all enslaved persons were free.
